Covering: Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, Lydney and the rest of the GL postcode area.
The local landmark: Gloucester Cathedral's fan vaulted cloisters doubled as Hogwarts corridors in the Harry Potter films, while Cheltenham's Regency terraces frame the Promenade.
Students: The University of Gloucestershire has campuses in both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester dates from 1845.
On the ground: Regency townhouses split into flats in Cheltenham, Victorian terraces in Gloucester and Stroud, and Cotswold stone cottages up narrow lanes beyond. If carrying is the hard part, Assisted from £349 brings us inside, with a two-person crew when furniture or bikes are aboard (£15 per end for 2nd or 3rd floor with no lift, £30 for 4th and up).
Who makes this move: Families priced out of London head for Cheltenham, Stroud and the Cotswold fringe, while GCHQ and the cyber cluster pull graduates from the capital too.
While you wait for the van: Every spring competitors chase a Double Gloucester cheese down the near vertical Cooper's Hill at Brockworth, a tradition thought to be centuries old.
