Next out of London: collect WED 14 OCT, deliver TUE 20 OCT · collect WED 21 OCT, deliver TUE 27 OCT.
Covering: Llandrindod Wells, Brecon, Builth Wells, Rhayader, Knighton, Presteigne, Llanwrtyd Wells and the rest of the LD postcode area.
The local landmark: The Victorian dams of the Elan Valley rise near Rhayader, and the Bannau Brycheiniog peaks climb above Brecon at the southern edge of the area.
On the ground: One of the most rural corners of Britain: single track lanes, scattered farms and small market town terraces, so clear directions and a mobile number matter. If carrying is the hard part, Assisted from £349 brings us inside, with a two-person crew when furniture or bikes are aboard (£15 per end for 2nd or 3rd floor with no lift, £30 for 4th and up).
Who makes this move: Low volume but distinctive: Londoners chasing smallholdings and hill views head out, while young people leave the market towns for city work.
While you wait for the van: Llanwrtyd Wells, which claims to be the smallest town in Britain, hosts the World Bog Snorkelling Championships every August.
