Covering: Oldham, Rochdale, Chadderton, Royton, Shaw, Littleborough, Uppermill and the rest of the OL postcode area.
The local landmark: Rochdale's Grade I listed Gothic town hall and the Pennine moors above Saddleworth bookend the area.
On the ground: Long rows of two-up two-down brick terraces with rear alleys in the mill towns, and steep stone lanes in the Saddleworth villages. If carrying is the hard part, Assisted from £349 brings us inside, with a two-person crew when furniture or bikes are aboard (£15 per end for 2nd or 3rd floor with no lift, £30 for 4th and up).
Who makes this move: Most traffic is students and graduates moving between Greater Manchester and London, plus a few capital leavers heading for Saddleworth's stone villages.
While you wait for the van: The modern co-operative movement began here when the Rochdale Pioneers opened their Toad Lane shop in 1844.
