Covering: Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Baldock, Hertford, Ware, Royston and the rest of the SG postcode area.
The local landmark: Knebworth House, the Victorian Gothic stately home famous for its giant rock concerts, sits just outside Stevenage.
On the ground: Stevenage New Town terraces and cul-de-sacs, garden city avenues in Letchworth, and Georgian high streets with tight rear access in Hitchin and Baldock. If carrying is the hard part, Assisted from £349 brings us inside, with a two-person crew when furniture or bikes are aboard (£15 per end for 2nd or 3rd floor with no lift, £30 for 4th and up).
Who makes this move: Pure commuter belt, so the flow is young families trading London rents for Hitchin and Letchworth while school leavers and graduates head into the capital.
While you wait for the van: Letchworth was the world's first garden city and claims Britain's first roundabout, built at Sollershott Circus around 1909.
